The Birth Review exists to bring the bigger picture to pregnancy & birth research. We aim to provide parents & birth workers with digestible and contextually supported articles.
We aim to give readers a thorough and well-rounded understanding of the evidence so they can see not only what the research found, but also other practical evidence-based considerations that may matter when applying it to their real-life circumstances.
Here at The Birth Review, we clearly love data. However, we humbly acknowledge that scientific data will never tell the full story. A statistic describing a “good” or “bad” birth outcome cannot convey the emotions behind a family’s birth story—and, likewise, a single birth story cannot tell us the full statistical picture. For this reason, we urge all families to make informed decisions based on their own prayer & meditation, in addition to the real scientific data you see here. We also recommend that expectant parents take the time to listen to birth stories. Within these, you will often see the data “come to life” and you will more importantly see the humanity in the very statistics you find here. This matters.
